Mission
Formed in 1984, the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History is a professional association of institutions and individuals from throughout Canada and the U.S. involved in preserving and interpreting the unique maritime history of the Great Lakes region. Membership in the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History is open to both institutions and individuals who are involved or interested in the preservation and interpretation of the maritime history of the Great Lakes region. In addition to annual maritime history conference, the Association encourages research by both professional and avocational maritime historians, financially supports the publishing of research results, and promotes the exchange of news and information on maritime history preservation and interpretation among its members and the general public.
